Double Dare Denim!

Double Denim is just one of those 80's trends that's BACK and with a BITING VENGEANCE.

Sexy, chic and stylish...this ain't your mommas double denim baby.  The looks your thinking of...the "Canadian Tuxedo" as it's been commonly referred to..has been impeccably updated by the likes of William Rast, Dolce and Gabbana and even The Gap!

So I'll admit even I wasn't sure about this trend when WR debuted the fall '09 looks (above)
Butttt I know when I'm wrong.  And I'm ready to go buy myself a hot little denim biker jacket from the Gap....
<----------adorable?  Yes.  Check.

D&G showed a Spring/Summer 2010 line with some great double denim looks although, disclaimer...I do NOT approve of the belted scenario going on with this look.
There are definitely ways to pull this look off and some are better than others.  Ditch the belt folks, it just crops your body into pieces and unless you're running a farm or you're a cowboy, it just makes NO sense!

Also, the belted look KIND OF works on these models, I get that, but they're all approximately 7 feet tall and 90 lbs.  Soooo, they'd look good in a paper sack. ;)

This is not a ready to wear look.  Let's leave the belts with the double denim on the Runway! Similarly boots are great, but not OVER the jeans.  Whoa...too much look.

Also, I love the look with two pieces in different washes....something lighter on top and darker on bottom seems to be right on trend probably because it works for most body types!

Alexa Chung  Cameron Diaz  Ashley Olsen
all have their own take on the look!
Approved.

Pairing this look with either something natural looking, like the above D&G buttery soft boots or an amazing hobo bag is ideal.  Go the other direction with something flirty and girly.  A gently blouse, a statement pair of earrings.  Just whatever it is, keep it simple!

I love the spread Elle Sweden did with double denim.  It's just delish.  Hot Pants, Vests, Jackets and everything in between.  To the left is a sample, google for more! Great inspiration!

Clearly the KEY: YOU WEAR THE LOOK...DON'T LET THE LOOK WEAR YOU!

You probably have the pieces to bring the look together already and if you don't, go ahead and invest.  A jean jacket and/or a great pair of jeans will NEVER go out of style.

For now, try out some double denim.  I double dare you. ;)

Go on beauties, be fabulous.  Let me know how it goes! Can't wait to see your pics on FB!
xx
